Prof. Ulrich Hegerl is a leading expert on depression and suicide prevention. He was the Director of the Psychiatry Clinic in Leipzig until 2019 and held the Senckenberg Distinguished Professorship at Goethe University Frankfurt from 2019 to 2024. He has over 30 years’ experience in mental health research and has published over 700 scientific papers.

Dr Theodoros Koutsomitros is a Consultant Psychiatrist-Psychotherapist with specialist qualifications from the UK (UCL), Greece (ΑΠΘ), the Netherlands (Maastricht) and the USA (Harvard). He is the Secretary of the Psychotherapy section of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) and the Founder and Director of the Greek rTMS clinic at the Medical Psychotherapeutic Centre, the largest mental health center in Greece.

The European Patient Congress Depression is a free online event designed to support and inform those affected by depression.  
 
The congress focuses on supporting individuals on their journey to mental wellness, offering practical guidance, expert advice, and fostering an empathetic community. Attendees will have a safe space in which to ask questions. They will gain valuable insights into managing depression and confronting stigma.

It’s for people suffering from depression who want to learn more about their condition and its treatment and receive practical advice from both experts and those who have personally experienced depression. It’s also for relatives seeking guidance to support their loved ones and enhance their own well-being. Additionally, it’s open to anyone interested in understanding depression better and finding ways forward. 

Yes, it’s completely free! To register, simply fill out the form on our website. After you submit the form, you'll need to confirm your registration by clicking on the link in the follow-up email we send you. 

The congress will happen on 7th December 2024 between 10 am and 3.30 pm Central European Time (CET).  

The congress will be held via Zoom. 

You can join the sessions via Zoom. We will send the links to the event to registered participants before the congress. You have two options: you can install the Zoom app on your device for the best experience, or you can join directly through a web browser using the link provided, without needing to install the app. 

No, you do not need to create an account to participate in the congress. Simply register and join the sessions through the Zoom links we provide you with before the event. 

Absolutely! You will have the opportunity to ask questions during the sessions in writing via the Q&A function. There will be a dedicated time slot for discussions and asking questions on depression and related topics. 

The congress will be conducted in English, and at this time, sessions will not be available in multiple languages. If it is more convenient for you to follow the talks and discussions by reading along, you can switch on the automated captions in Zoom (Instructions here). 

No, you don’t need to have your camera turned on. You can choose to participate with your camera off if you prefer. 

Yes, the event will be recorded (mainly for internal documentation purposes). Only short clips of speakers’ talks might be published online, but not the Q&A sessions and discussions.
